The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
