Zelenskyy Appeals to Trump to Broker Ceasefire in Ukraine

President Zelenskyy appealed to Donald Trump to facilitate a truce in the Ukrainian conflict over a telephone conversation on the weekend.

"Provided that a hostilities can be halted in a single area, then certainly additional conflicts can be stopped as well, covering the Russian war," the President remarked, praising Trump's "remarkable" Middle East ceasefire plan and calling for the US president to compel the Kremlin into negotiations.

Moscow's Attacks Kill Lives in the Country

Moscow's assaults on Ukraine resulted in the deaths of 5 individuals on Saturday and cut power to areas of Ukraine's southern Odesa area, as stated by local sources.

Two people were killed inside a church in Kostyantynivka when it was hit, per local authorities.

In Russia's border region of Belgorod, a truck driver was fatally wounded by a Ukrainian strike, as stated by municipal sources.

Power Restoration Operations in Kyiv

Work carried on on the weekend to restore power in Kyiv, after strikes by Moscow.

Electricity had been returned to more than 800,000 citizens by the weekend and the largest utility provider announced the key efforts to repair the grid was complete though some outages remained.

Air Defence Operations and Drone Jamming

The Ukrainian air defences downed or disrupted fifty-four of 78 total enemy drones deployed against Ukraine in the dark hours, the aerial defense command announced on Saturday.

Russia's defense officials stated it eliminated 42 enemy Ukrainian drones over the country's airspace.

Cuban Government Denies Claims of Providing Forces to the War

Havana on Saturday refuted American assertions it has sent military personnel to engage in the Ukraine war, while declaring Cuban authorities "do not have exact details about citizens of Cuba" involved "on their own" or "within the troops of both sides".

The government department in the capital announced 26 Cuban citizens had been sentenced to prison terms from 5 to 14 years for participating as mercenaries since the autumn of 2023 when information emerged of Cubans being sent to the frontlines in the conflict.

The program, a Ukrainian government program that urges adversaries to lay down arms, stated in May: "We reliably know the personal data of one thousand and twenty-eight Cubans who signed contracts with the Russian armed forces in 2023-2024."

The Cuban foreign ministry commented of Cubans who might be involved: "It is irrefutable that not a single one have the support, commitment, or consent of the Cuban state for their actions."

Family members of Cubans who traveled to Russia in 2023 informed Agence France-Presse at the time that their loved ones had been deceptively recruited through promotions on digital networks.
