New Year Celebrants Told to Dress Warmly with Snow Forecast Throughout the UK
Weather experts are reporting a chilly start to the new year, with snowfall anticipated throughout a lot of the UK. Celebrants are advised to wrap up as sub-zero temperatures are forecast for New Year's Eve.
Celebratory Plans Continue Amid Forecasts
The Scottish capital's iconic Hogmanay events are planned to proceed, a contrast to last year's calling-off. This is in spite of advisories for snow across northern Scotland.
"A cold New Year's Eve night for those out celebrating, so additional clothing will be essential," stated the weather service.

Extensive Weather Alerts for New Year's Day
Moving into Friday, weather warnings are active across Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and the majority of the south-east of England.

Readings Forecast to Drop Further
With the start of 2026, it will be "cold regardless of where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. Temperatures are expected to plummet as snow and gale-force winds are predicted to hit the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow could accumulate to have settled in some areas by Friday morning, potentially hitting 30cm on the highest roads and hills.
Medical Advisories Activated
In addition, amber cold health alerts are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are due to continue until noon on 5 January, with the mercury forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Authorities said this indicated the weather was likely to cause notable consequences across health and social care services. This includes a potential rise in the fatality numbers among vulnerable individuals or those aged 65 or over.
