Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
