Jurgen Klopp admits rejoining to manage Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club remains a possibility. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included continental glory and the Premier League crown since 1990, now holds positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the Premier League under Arne Slot, though countless followers who adore the manager would welcome the idea that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I said I refuse to lead a different club on English soil. So that means should it be the Reds...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests I might decide later on, I don’t know. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on what circumstances would need to occur to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; No desire to be during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for press conferences repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. Success was frequent thus frequently a very good mood at the club. I can still hear the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role due to the changes that took the title last term. The team has suffered four in a row in all competitions following significant transfers, but he rubbished the idea that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in while in charge, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision together with his sibling in July.
“How do you replace a person like him? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A devastating blow for the entire squad as well. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it for poor performances though it's a fact. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Coping with it emotionally is difficult. Unbearable.”
