Everyday tennis enthusiasts will have the chance to win one million Australian dollars when they compete against elite players - headed by leading player Carlos Alcaraz - in a winner-takes-all point before the Australian Grand Slam

Organizers of the Australian Open have revealed the Million Dollar One Point Slam, which will match 10 amateur players against elite athletes in a knockout tournament at Melbourne Park

How the Event Will Work

Participants must play 'the classic hand game' to determine who takes the serve or return position, and the player who wins the point will advance to the following stage

The victor of the event will receive £490,000

For comparison, players who advanced to the final four of the men's or women's singles in the last edition won A$1.1m

Participation Details

Any Australians - or international players who have signed up with the national federation - can compete in 'single-point competition' events at their community centers

The winners of the local competitions will then go into a selection process, with one amateur player from every geographic division chosen to take part in the 'final competition' in a nighttime event on the specified date

There will also be a entry tournament in the final month which everyday players, lower ranked pros, famous personalities and sport stars can compete in

It starts on the starting date and the successful competitors will advance to the midweek 'championship match' with the other eight amateurs and elite competitors

"No matter your experience, the ultimate winner will receive the reward. Entries will start imminently at facilities throughout the nation"

Tournament officials stated there were "more big names to be revealed shortly", while the tournament site indicated "celebrities" would be taking part
