Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few key changes:

  • Each team includes just eight human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Responses: From Fury to Praise

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback

All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
